The Addo National Park

Addo is one of South Africa’s finest national parks. Home to the ‘big 5’ (or big 7), Addo is conveniently located between East London and Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape province. This is a malaria free area with easy access by air or by road.

Accommodation at Addo

The accommodation on offer at Addo will suit everyone’s needs. From camping for those who prefer to rough it, right up to five-star for those who are prepared to pay for a little luxury. Reservations and more information can be found on the official SanParks site.

What to see and do at Addo

The main camp has a good shop, restaurant and information centre. Visitors can go on game viewing excursions, either self-driving or utilising the park vehicles accompanied by a qualified game ranger. Night drives are also available, well worth it as private vehicles are not allowed in the park at night. 4x4 vehicles are not required.

Why go to Addo

While acknowledging that the Kruger National Park is one of the finest safari parks in the world and certainly the best in South Africa, Kruger is a little far and is also a massive tract of land, as big as some smaller countries. If you are limited by either time or travel logistics, the Addo National Park offers travellers a wonderful alternative.
