Information guide: What is the difference between a Bed and Breakfast (B&B, BnB) and a Guest House

Tourist Grading Council of South Africa: TGCSA

The definition between a Boutique Hotel, Bed and Breakfast establishments and Guest House or Lodge can be confusing. According to the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA) the significant difference is that a Guest House is required to have separate guest facilities as compared to a Bed and Breakfast establishment where these facilities are sometimes shared with the family or management. A Guest Lodge, not dissimilar to a Guest House, is generally expected to be located in or on a natural area. Riverbend Guest House in East London, South Africa, is in fact situated on the edge of the Nahoon River estuary nature reserve but we elected to be called a Guest House rather than to confuse visitors and to maintain the integrity of the TGCSA grading system.

Blue Bend, an area of Beacon Bay which is one of the most popular suburbs of East London, nestled between two rivers, on either side and the sea in front, Beacon Bay is a lovely area to choose for your accommodation when visiting East London and the Eastern Cape.
